Nirvana Via the Mindfulness Café

Bao Huynh, Staff Reporter

Feeling stressed or overloaded with homework? As a high school student, this almost certainly applies to you. Don’t panic, just breathe, and consider the Mindfulness Café as a way to relieve your stress.

Headed by Mr. Mac, the Mindfulness Café emphasizes being attentive to all of the little details around you, and is a fantastic way to take your mind off of other things. The activities range from simple breathing exercises, to tasting foods, taking in every little detail of the items. Future sessions are sure to include more foods and drinks to taste, and other interesting activities, such as yoga and mindful conversation

After attending the first session, I found some well-needed solace in the activities. It’s amazing how simple things such taking in breath slowly can have such a profound effect on your mood. Simply taking the time to focus on things around us will help you shift your attention away from schoolwork and stress, and will give you some breathing room.

As high school students, we often have a lot of stress weighing us down. The Mindfulness Café, I believe, is a fantastic way to lighten the load, and is the opportunity we never knew we needed. The next scheduled meetings will be on Monday morning from 7:15 to 7:45 and Tuesday afternoon from 3:10 to 4:00 in Mr. Mac’s room. So, don’t forget to breathe, and consider attending one of the next sessions of the Mindfulness Café.
