Extension to Monterey Avenue: a New Shortcut from 82nd Ave to Fuller Rd

A shortcut to get from La Salle to Clackamas Town Center and other surrounding businesses is in the making. This shortcut is the extension of Monterey Avenue, which will lead from 82nd Ave to Fuller Road, just north of La Salle’s staff parking lot.

This new extension should improve connections for travelers and make Clackamas Town Center more accessible to pedestrians. Other bonuses to this project include new roadway construction, bike lanes, sidewalks, improvements to water drainage, street lighting, and landscaping.

Construction for this project began in mid May of this year and is on schedule, according to project manager David Queener, to finish on November 1st of this year.

The reason for this extension of Monterey Avenue is because “in the Clackamas Regional Center area there are many north-south streets that allow people to drive, bike or walk to the many businesses and amenities located in the Regional Center,” Queener said. “What is lacking are adequate east-west connections in some parts of the Regional Center.”

“The Monterey Avenue extension will provide a more direct connection between La Salle and the surrounding neighborhood to and from 82nd and the Town Center, an alternative route for travelers coming to or from Milwaukie via Harmony Road, bike lanes, and wider sidewalks for easier and safer connections,” Queener added.

Overall, for La Salle students and staff, the extension of Monterey Avenue will provide a more convenient and safer route to and from school.
