Clubs Gear Up For Final Push

Sydney Welp, Staff Reporter

As the year comes to a close, many clubs are gearing up for the final push. Below are a list of some fun and interesting clubs that are worth joining for the remainder of the year or considering for next year.

Strings Ensemble:

The Strings Ensemble is a club for all grades, levels, and abilities and is perfect for strings players looking for a fun time. Taught by Mr. Donnelly, the players learn how to master their instruments and expand their playing ability with scales, warm ups from their exercise book, etudes, and small arrangements. Players meet at 3:00 pm in the band room, behind the theater. For more information talk to sophomores Jonah Lyon or Stella Tompkins.

Cat Appreciation Club:

This club is one for cat lovers all around. Led by junior Fiona Brunning, members spend their lunches watching funny and cute cat videos. Meetings, held in Mrs. Coleman’s room, include chatting with other members, enjoying silly cat videos and eating lunch. Members suggest videos on Schoology, and browse through YouTube. There are no restrictions, and anyone is welcome to join. Members don’t need to bring anything and are always welcomed into the club. For more information talk to Fiona Brunning.

Community 101:

C101 is a club for people who want to make the world a better place by meeting once a month and focusing on service, leadership and charitable giving. Their goal this year is to provide more funding to after school programs for youths and teens. Club members research different organizations that met the Lasallian values, and then help fund and support them.

Each meeting focuses on something different, such as making a mission statement, researching organizations, narrowing down Lasallian organizations, and helping them through the grant process. All are welcome to join. For more specific information talk to Maddy Starr, Emma Ly or Keegan Storlie.

Speech and Debate:

Speech and Debate is a group of people that enjoy hearing each other’s ideas and practicing educational banter. The group meets on Thursdays from 3:00-4:30 in Room #140. Meetings involve students practicing their speeches or debates discussing the current news and brainstorming future topics. However, students cannot be involved in the spring musical because play practice and Speech and Debate meetings often clash.

Students also must be willing to practice outside of class and spend time working on speeches and preparing for debate tournaments. This club builds life skills that are often needed in any professional career. Additionally, students who compete in enough tournaments become lifetime members of the National Forensic League, a Speech and Debate honors society. For more information talk to Mr. Doran in Rm. #140.
