Athlete of the Week: Justin Heller, Track

Track season is just getting underway, and one athlete that is anticipating a great season is senior speedster Justin Heller. We sat down with Justin to ask him a few questions about the challenges and goals facing him this season.

  • What events do you participate in?

I run the 100 m, 4X100 m, 200 m, 4X400 m, and I also pole vault.

  • What are some of your goals entering the season?

I want to beat the school record in pole vault and get to state. I will achieve this by working with my best friend, mentor, and hero, coach Jake Baertlein.

  • What is your biggest challenge this track season?

Myself. I think I am my own obstacle in the pole vault: If I correct my mistakes I will achieve all my goals and become a great pole vaulter.

  • When did you start running track?

I started running in 6th grade.

  • What/Who is your biggest inspiration?

My coach, Jake Baertlein. He is a great man with extraordinary abilities as a track coach. plus he makes me feel safe when pole vaulting.

  • What is your favorite track memory

Me and Baertlein driving up to state together last year. This was such a bonding experience for us as fellow pole vaulters and solidified our relationship into one big great force to be reckoned with.

  • Do you plan to run track in college?

Yes, potentially at St. Martins University. I would study special education as well.
