Student of the Week: Allie Burns
February 6, 2015
Senior Allie Burns takes school very seriously and maintains an average GPA of 3.8. Currently taking many AP classes, Burns has always pursued a rigorous curriculum in her time here at La Salle. Her interest in advanced classes began in middle school, when she attended a magnet school, Winterhaven. At La Salle, she has particularly enjoyed classes such as Calculus BC and AP Chemistry.
“I think it’s really important to stay on top of homework and talk to teachers as soon as you have problems” Burns states. “I enjoy taking AP classes because they test my thinking skills and widen my knowledge.”
At La Salle, Burns’ passion is taking language classes and she is currently in Honors Spanish 4 and has taken 2 years of Chinese her sophomore and junior year. Burns thinks taking language classes are exciting because “I am able to learn how other’s speak around the world.” Burns hosted an exchange student at the beginning of the 2014 Chilean summer and plans on going to Chile at the beginning of summer to become more fluent and see the different cultures throughout the Spanish speaking world.
Burns finds school very exciting yet challenging and says that “school is what you make of it. I think that school can be fun when you stay engaged and get excited about what you are learning.” She is very excited to go off to college and plans on attending Oregon State University. She looks forward to studying Engineering and hopes to study through the international degree program located at OSU. Through this program she would study abroad and double major in engineering.
