La Salle Basketball Teams Look Forward to Playoffs

Veronica Horton, Editor

La Salle’s boys and girls basketball are almost done with their regular season in 5A NWOC, and playoffs will begin in early March. The girls team has a guaranteed playoff spot, and the boys team will have a play-in game to determine if they will make it to the rest of the playoffs.

Girls Basketball

With only three games left, the girls team is having a great season, going undefeated in league, 13-0. As of right now, the girls are 20-1 overall, with their only loss to Hermiston back in January.

The team is ranked 3rd in the state by OSAA, behind 1st-place Crater (20-1) and 2nd-place Hermiston (18-3).

Senior night for the girls is this Friday, Feb. 20, when the team’s three seniors, Tori Goodman, Makenzie Cook, and Dannise Matarlo will be honored for their contributions.

The remaining three games are against St. Helens on Feb. 20th, at Putnam on Feb. 24th and at Sandy on Feb. 27th.

Currently the 1st seed in the NWOC, the girls will have a playoff game at home on March 6th against the 14th seed, which will change depending on who wins their play-in games. If the girls lose their next three games, they will be placed 2nd in the conference and will advance to the playoffs regardless, which will be at home.

Boys Basketball

The boys look to finish the season off with three more wins in the season. Currently ranked 18th, the boys need to get wins over both Putnam and Sandy to move up in the 5A rankings. The boys are 7-6 in league and 12-9 overall.

The boys senior night takes place on Friday, Feb. 27 against 21st-ranked Sandy. The boys have eight seniors to celebrate this night, and this will be an important game in their bid to make it to the playoffs.

The remaining three games are St. Helens on Feb. 20th (away), Putnam on Feb 24th, and Sandy on Feb. 27th (senior night).

Looking ahead to the playoffs, the boys, being 5th in the conference as of right now, would have a play-in game on the road against a Columbia River team who is ranked 2nd in their league. If they win their next three games, they will move up to fourth with a  home game on March 3rd against the Intermountain #3 for play-ins.

Even if the boys lose two or the rest of their games, they will only move down one spot or stay as the 5th seed in the conference. If they become the 6th place in NWOC, they will have a play-in game on the road against the 2nd place Intermountain league.
