With their two new hits, “Maps” and “Animals”, Maroon 5’s music style has changed since their first album, Songs about Jane was released June 25th, 2002. Since 2002, Maroon 5 has released nine other albums, all of which have demonstrated their changing style.

Most people know Maroon 5 from their top song from Songs about Jane called “She Will Be Loved,” that became a hit single which made them so popular with the youth. Other top hits from their first album includes “This Love” and “Harder to Breathe.”

Since its debut in 2002, the band has sold more than 10 million albums in the United States and over 100 million singles and 27 million albums worldwide. However, their style and genre changes through each album from soft rock, to the newest album V, which is electro pop, makes Maroon 5 a huge success story in the music industry.

In late May of 2007, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long album was released to the shelves. Since their first album, their genre changed to electro-funk and alternative rock. Popular songs from this album includes “Makes Me Wonder” and “Wake Up Call” which both became their own hit singles before the whole album was published.

In different interviews with lead singer, Adam Levine, he said that this album was a little more self-confident and powerful lyrically: “You can dance to it, [and] there’s a little more attitude.”

Going into 2010, Maroon 5 came out with another, similar of album as the last, called Hands all Over. This album has two huge songs, “Misery” and “Moves like Jagger”. Both are on the more upbeat side, and have both been played on the radio when they were released on this album. On the slower side, songs like “Just a Feeling” and “Never Gonna Leave This Bed (acoustic)” gives the album a more slower, more relax feel that Maroon 5 have always added to their albums.

Overexposed is the fourth studio album that Maroon 5 published on June 20th, 2012. This album is more pop rock than the jazz, soft rock music they started with in older songs. Songs like “Payphone” reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, and got mostly positive reviews from critics, noting the departure from older Maroon 5 songs. Overexposed gives Maroon 5 a way to show their different genres that they are able to play, not just sticking to the same genre every time.

Lastly, Maroon 5’s latest album, V, was released the 2nd of September of this year. Songs from this album have been popular on the radio, and most people know this album because of “Maps” and “Animals,” which are both upbeat and have a more edgy pop vibe than their other songs. On this album, less popular songs but ones that are still good include “Sugar”, “It Was Always You” and “Unkiss Me” which are all linked below:

“Sugar”

“It Was Always You”

“Unkiss Me”

These songs give the album a softer side and also a wider spread of types of music that Maroon 5 are able to perform. V sold over 164,00 copies in the first week that it came out and now, has been doubled.

With many albums of differing styles, Maroon 5 has been able to capture not only genres, but a way to be a huge name in the music industry.
