Walking Club Provides Fun and Easy Excercise
November 7, 2014
“It’s going to rain / we’re going to shine / no reason to refrain / no one gets left behind / join us and see / how much fun exercise can be / out on the track / tomorrow at three.” With these words, Mr. De Ieso reminded students about the new Walking Club.
On October 14, the Walking Club held their inaugural meeting on the track. They now meet every Tuesday from 3:00-4:00 on the La Salle track, rain or shine.
Walking club is for anyone “who wants to get outside and move.” Mr. De Ieso and Ms. Orr, the founders of the club, created this club because they “thought that maybe some kids and and adults who normally wouldn’t go out for a sport, might want to go out for a walk, [to] start slow [and] build up.”
Eventually they aspire to “go off campus” and “maybe all go to a race [or] a walking event together.” But before that can happen, there must be more club members.
This club is unique because “it’s the only exercise related club that staff and students are involved equally [and] on an equal plane. It’s the only exercise related club sport that is non competitive. It’s entirely about community.”
Even if you cannot dedicate an hour every Tuesday to the walking club, you can still participate. “Students do not have to let us know in advance if they want to come, they can just show up. If they don’t know until five minutes before, or they come out a little bit late that’s okay too.”
If you want to get out and walk, be sure to check out walking club.
