Is Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ a Hit or Miss?

Taylor Swift’s new album, named ‘1989’ for the year she was born, is jumping up in the charts, since being released on October 27. It sold about 1.287 million copies just within the first week, leading the album to get to the top of the Billboard music charts.

Swift has always had a great deal of success within the music world, but ‘1989’ has been extremely successful in such a short period of time, in part due to lots of advertising and Swift’s savvy social media presence.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

With her music and merchandise selling as well as they are, as of June 2014 she has amassed a fortune of $64 million at the age of only 24. According to Forbes she is also ranked the eighteenth richest celebrity. Swift has been awarded 11 Teen Choice awards, 7 Billboard Music awards, 6 Country Music awards, 3 Kids Choice awards, 3 American Music awards, and even 6 Grammys.

With all of this success, Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ represents her departure from country music and her transition into a mainstream pop musician.

There are 13 songs on the album and I would personally suggest ‘Blank Space’ or ‘Welcome To New York,’ as those two are my favorites on the album. Both songs are very fun to listen to and tell somewhat of a story. I especially like the music video that recently came out for the song ‘Blank Space’ because the storyline is very captivating and gets you to understand the lyrics to a greater level.

The fun album also strays away from Swift’s well known break up country songs, and focuses instead on her as a person, which I think is well replicated in the album name and the song titles. The titles range from ‘Out of the Woods’ to ‘Style’ and the most interesting title in my opinion, ‘Bad Blood.’ The names of these songs get my attention and compelled me to listen to them, and when I did I listened for things relating to the title in the song. When doing this I found that the lyrics were extremely well written and interesting.

The songs on this new album are mostly upbeat and not very country at all, which I think is a much better route for Swift to take in her music career. I enjoy this album much more than I like her previous ones.
