Homecoming kicked off early last week with vibrant school spirit, featuring four days of school pride before the festivities began for the dance on Saturday, Oct. 11.
On Monday, Sept. 29, students navigated La Salle’s hallways with “anything but a backpack,” a fun variation on the traditional backpack.
On Tuesday, Sept. 30, students donned liturgy dress to attend the annual Homecoming Mass, hosted by Father James M. Antonio, SJ.
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, students channeled their inner twins, pairing together with friends and sporting matching outfits.
And on Thursday, Oct. 2, the twin mentality went school-wide, with the entire student body wearing matching Homecoming shirts for the annual Homecoming assembly.
Of course, all of this didn’t appear out of nowhere, as it took the combined efforts of the Leadership class’ juniors — the students typically tasked with planning Homecoming — to plan and put together this event.
According to junior and Officer of Spirit Jacob Broudy, the Homecoming planning process begins with selecting the year’s theme, organizing the decorations and the places where the dance will take place on campus, and finally preparing for promotions, spirit week, and of course, the dance itself.
The theme “Meet Me in Miami” was inspired by another Lasallian school, who also used the theme for their dance.
This year, Leadership designed the dance to be more universally inviting, starting earlier and having more areas open.
In general, the class is hoping to make dances more student-centered by focusing on student feedback on this dance and dances in the future. “We’re really trying to make it about the students, and have the students’ opinions for all the dances,” Broudy said.
