The La Salle boy’s baseball team had an exciting game Tuesday night with a commanding 10-5 win against St. Helens to conclude their 11th game this season.

With seven games completed and a four game tournament in Arizona the La Salle baseball team is off to a running start. The team has four wins and three losses to begin their at home season, and played exceptionally well at the Coach Bob Invitational in Arizona with three wins and one loss throughout the week.

The team is coached by Jake Austin, math teacher at La Salle, who has been coaching high school baseball for the past 12 years, and is coaching for his third year at La Salle. During spring break, the team ventured to Arizona to take part in the Coach Bob Invitational.

According to the website, the invitational is a tournament “Where nearly 100 high school baseball teams gather in Phoenix, AZ.” This is not the first year La Salle program has taken part in the invitational, but it is the first time since Coach Austin has been leading the team.

“The trip was amazing,” senior catcher Jake Lyver said. “It was perfect weather and the fields were in great condition. We came together as a team and played our hearts out.”

The invitational took place over six days, and was an opportunity for teams from California, Colorado, and Arizona to compete and practice in the beautiful weather Arizona has to offer.

The guys really came together off the field,” Coach Austin said. “We got to do some team bonding which really gave us an opportunity to get to know each other more.”

Since returning the team has played four more games, only losing one of the four to The Dalles.

“I am very excited about this year’s group,” Coach Austin said. “If we stick to the process focusing on working hard and playing together we could be a tough team this season.”

The team consists of seniors Dylan deGeneres and Jacob Lyver. The juniors on the team are Ole Arntson, Jason Burns, Matthew Duarte, Bryce Falk, Matthew Lynch, Levi Miles, Miles Norman, Joel Simmons, and Cayden Martinez. The sophomores are Luke Greenslade and Matthew Niebergall.

The next home game is on Tuesday, April 12 at 5PM versus the Liberty Falcons. The team’s complete game schedule and standings can be found on the OSAA website.
